Whangamata has a vibrant events scene, particularly during the summer months. The town hosts several music events throughout the year, from major festivals to smaller live music nights at local bars and venues.
Whangamata Beach Hop
The biggest music and entertainment event in Whangamata is the annual Beach Hop, held over five days around late March. While primarily a vintage car festival, Beach Hop features a packed live music programme with rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly and classic bands performing at multiple venues throughout town. It draws over 100,000 visitors.
New Year’s Eve Events
Whangamata is one of New Zealand’s most popular New Year’s Eve destinations. Many bars and venues host live music and DJ events. Past years have seen larger organised events and concerts in the town, though these vary from year to year.
